Birthday Projects

So today is my birthday and I had the day off so I decided to do some fun crafty projects.

The first one was a lamp for the orange and blue man cave downstairs. We needed a lamp down there because it gets so dark when you're watching a movie or something so I decided to make one instead of buying one. I started with an old popcorn tin that of course had Chicago Bears all over it and I drilled holes in the top and the bottom. I bought a self-adhesive lamp shade and a lamp kit, all of which combined was cheaper than buying a lamp. I had leftover fabric from the curtains my mom made for our basement. I attached the fabric to the shade, assembled the lamp kit and voila, it worked!!! My hubby will be excited when he gets home!

The next thing I did was a nightlight for the nursery. When I was in the lamp shade making aisle at Hobby Lobby, I saw make your own nightlights as well and knew I had extra nursery fabric. So with a little cutting, some hot glue, and some pretty ribbon, I have a nightlight next to the changing table!

Finally, the last thing I did was a shelf for above the changing table in the nursery. I was trying to find one that I liked that had hooks too, well, again, while at Hobby Lobby I found the perfect one that was unpainted and ready for some TLC! It also has a cut-out for you to put something cute like a name or something. So I spray painted it all chocolate brown first. Then I took the insert and simply put "Head" in it since we obviously don't know what a name will be when we adopt our baby, added some scrapbook paper to make it cute, and hung it on the wall!

It was fun to relax and do some crafty things today on my birthday!

And here's a picture of the carseat we ordered. We were told by other couples who had recently adopted that a carseat is the one thing that they didn't have when they got the phone call that there was a baby for them. They scrambled to get one and didn't end up with the one they wanted or have time to research the safety of them. Since that is the one thing that you NEED to have, we went ahead and got one, I loved the pattern and the safety ratings were excellent!
