I've had a lot of fun subbing the past few weeks. I've been in and out of Kindergarten, 5th grade, and Junior Theology and have enjoyed the variety. I have also had many laughs as kids say and do some of the funniest things.
Here's my story of the day:
I subbed in 5th grade today. So I got to school this morning and after assembly, we were getting the kids' backpacks. One girl taps me and says "Are you the sub?" I nodded. She then said "Did you bring your paddle?" (The look on my face had to be priceless at this moment and let me just say that I know their teacher well and know that it did not come from her nor would she ever have a paddle) I asked her to repeat what she just said and she did. So I smiled and said "Yes." (jokingly of course) The look on her face was one of sheer terror. She then said "I thought my teacher said you would be nice!" And she then walked away and whispered to another girl that I had, indeed, brought my paddle. I quickly told her that I was joking and did not bring a paddle and would not ever bring a paddle....
Where do they come up with these things? Who gave her the idea that the sub would bring a paddle? A paddle? Really?
So anyway, I was then "graded" all day long on my "niceness". Apparently their teacher told them that I was very nice, so they measured how "nice" I was all day long. So every time a student got in trouble I heard, "I thought you were nice!"
