We had a busy morning planned today. Most mornings this summer have been busy, by design. The kids enjoy getting out and having fun, so we're making the most of the summer events after a long winter of being cooped up.
On the agenda today was 1) Long walk 2)Library 3)Adoration 4)Grocery store 5)Sam's Club for lunch with friends.
Our walk was so very nice and we got to see tons of ducks around the lake today. Anna did her usual constant narration as we walked, "Mommy, duckies walking. Duckies are eatin the fish. Duckies drinking the water. Duckies swimmin in the water." and so on. And true to self, Anthony gave a friendly "Hi der!" to each and every person that we passed and after they smiled and said hi back, he proceeded to start over and wave, saying "Hi der!"
We then made our trip to the library as scheduled. We got our books and headed back to the car when I realized I forgot the diaper bag. With a one year old on a laxative for his constipation and a 2 year old with a complex about getting anything, even droplets of water on her clothes, this left me a little unnerved. I don't go anywhere without my diaper bag full of essentials. We were on the complete opposite side of town from our house. All of our errands were on that side of town today.
So I debated. Do I skip Adoration and run home to get it? Do I brave it and hope for the best? Do we just go home and save the grocery shopping for later? I decided to run home and get it. It would make the rest of our morning a little more hectic, but at least give me peace of mind.
As we drove past our Church (where we have a Perpetual Adoration Chapel), Anna began to freak out. "Mommy! Say hi to Jesus! Go oaf (this) way! No mommy, say hi to Jesus!" You see, I had told her what our agenda was, she likes to know what's going on for the day and asks every morning. We always stop by Adoration after we go to the library. She likes her time to say hi to Jesus. She loves going to "Amoration".
I turned the car around and we drove back to Church. We got out of the car and headed in to see Jesus. Anna got down on her knees, made the sign of the cross and said, "Father, Son, Howy Spirit" and proceeded to "our" pew. I couldn't help but stop and thank Jesus for sending this little reminder that there's always time to pray. I should never get too caught up in things that the activity that I cut out of the day is our prayer time. The most peaceful time of our day has been those 10 minutes when we said hi (repeatedly in Anthony's case) to Jesus. Anna said an "Our Father" with me and told me all about the picture of "Jesus holding the white flag" on the altar, and "Mary with the pretty colors" (Our Lady of Guadalupe) on the window, and the "clouds on the ceiling." I prayed for faith like my daughter.
I needed those 10 minutes because the next two hours would be full of toddler meltdowns, poopy pants (sans diaper bag) and messy outfits. I was able to be patient and peaceful during the craziness that my kids dished out at the grocery stores and once I got home, I gave the poopy prince a quick bath and they both went right to sleep.
So thanks for the lesson today my sweet Anna.
